There’s currently a Mark Wahlberg sci-fi film climbing up the streaming charts for Paramount+ and you may want to think twice before checking out what all the fuss is about. Infinite just hit #2 on the platform, but that doesn’t necessarily mean it’s worth your time. The movie was not very well-received so it might not be something you want to add to your watch list.

Infinite was released just last year, so it’s one of the newer entries to the Mark Wahlberg catalog. It’s also a very badly reviewed entry. Infinite is a movie about Evan McCauley (Wahlberg), who finds that he has memories of skills and places that he doesn’t remember. It turns out that Evan is an Infinite and that the memories are from past lives. He must team up with the other Infinites to take down Bathurst 2020 (Chiwetel Ejiofor), an Infinite who wants to end the world to end the cycle of reincarnation. Though the lofty premise certainly has some promise, it seems like the execution just wasn’t there. The movie received terrible reviews, with a 16% Rotten Tomatoes score from critics and 34% from audiences. It’s surprising that a movie with such terrible reception is climbing up the Paramount+ charts, but you never know what’s going to happen with these streaming movies.

As for director Antoine Fuqua, he’s definitely put out much better movies than this one. Even his other Mark Wahlberg starring effort, Shooter, would be a better choice. Of course, if you’re wanting to check out a Fuqua film that’s well-reviewed and worth your time, you should definitely pick Training Day instead of Infinite. As for Mark Wahlberg, he’s no stranger to a bad movie every now and then, but this is definitely one of his worst-reviewed efforts in a while. Fortunately, the actor has plenty more projects going on to make up for this miss. Right now, he has a movie out in theaters called Father Stu, where he plays a former boxer who becomes a priest after getting a second chance at life. While the critical reception isn’t great for Father Stu, it’s getting a pretty warm reception from audiences.

Of course, Mark Wahlberg’s most recent commercial success would be the Tom Holland co-starring Uncharted. The movie adapts the popular Uncharted video game franchise with Holland playing the role of a young Nathan Drake and Wahlberg playing Victor “Sully” Sullivan. Once again, critics weren’t super impressed with this effort, but audiences loved it. Many people who love the games felt Holland and Wahlberg were miscast in their roles, but the action, humor, and breezy blockbuster nature of the movie seemed to win audiences over. This could definitely be the next big franchise for Wahlberg, with sequels seeming like an inevitable conclusion.

If you’ve been enjoying the streak of Mark Wahlberg films coming out lately, you still have more to look forward to before the year is over. The next movie he has coming out is called Me Time and will put Wahlberg back in the comedy mode he perfected in films like Ted, The Other Guys, and Pain & Gain. Me Time will feature Wahlberg as a husband and father who reconnects with an old friend for a wild weekend while his kids and wife are away. Me Time will co-star Kevin Hart, Tahj Mowry, and Regina Hall. Another movie that may have a 2022 release date is Arthur the King which features Wahlberg as an adventure racer who adopts a dog to run his next race with him. Arthur the King will co-star Simu Liu and Nathalie Emmanuel.

In the meantime, you can always check out Infinite and see if you disagree with the masses. It could be one of those cases of a movie being so bad that it’s entertaining. In that case, it might be worth checking out this Mark Wahlberg sci-fi. Otherwise, it seems like there are definitely some better options that star the actor out there. Whether you watch Infinite or not, it seems like Wahlberg isn’t slowing down with his acting career. There are plenty more films on the horizon, so there’s bound to be a better Wahlberg film than Infinite to check out in the near future.
